Nux Vomica

Nux vomica or Strychnos nux-vomica, also known as walnut-vomica, walnut-vomitoria or fava-de-Saint-Ignatius, is a medicinal plant of Loganiaceae family. It is an important source of strychnine and brucine alkaloids, highly poisonous, extracted from seeds of the rounded fruit, green to orange, from the tree. The seeds contain about 1.5% strychnine and desiccated floral ends contain about 1.0%. The stem is also used to extract brucine, and other toxic compounds, such as vomicina and colubrina.
